SPSS® for Mac OS® Abbreviated Installation Instructions (Site License)
The following instructions are for installing SPSS using a site license.
During installation, you will be prompted for the following information. Except for the serial number, all information is required. Contact your site administrator if you do not have the required information.

System Requirements for SPSS
The minimum hardware and software requirements for SPSS are as follows:
Operating System
- Mac OS® X 10.4 or higher.
Configuration
- PowerPC or Intel processor.
- 512 megabytes (MB) of RAM or more. At least 1 gigabyte (GB) is recommended.
- 800 megabytes (MB) of available hard-disk space.
- CD-ROM drive.
- Super VGA (800x600) or a higher resolution monitor.
Software
- Web browser: Safari 1.3.1 or higher, Firefox 1.5 or higher, or Netscape 7.2 or higher.
- Java Standard Edition 5.0 (J2SE 5.0).
Installing SPSS
Note: To install SPSS, you must be logged on to your computer with administrator privileges. When you initiate the install process, you will be asked to reenter your administrator password before SPSS will proceed.
Your SPSS administrator might have given you a CD-ROM or identi?ed a network location from which to install. Check with your administrator if you do not know the procedure to follow to install SPSS.
Upgrading from a Previous Release
You do not need to uninstall an old version of SPSS before installing the new version. If you want to keep both versions, be sure to install the new version in a separate directory.
Installing from a CD-ROM
- Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
- Browse to the CD-ROM.
- Double-click SPSS Installer, and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen. See Notes Specific to UI Installation below for any special instructions.
Notes Specific to UI Installation
This section contains special instructions for this installation.
License type: Be sure to select Site License.
Serial number and Authorization Code: When you purchased your license from the UI Bookstore you should have been provided a serial number and an authorization code; use the serial number and authorization code delivered with your product. Contact your SPSS administrator if you did not receive the serial number and authorization code.
Using the License Authorization Wizard
- If you don’t launch the License Authorization Wizard during installation or cancel the License Authorization Wizard before obtaining a license, you can launch it at any time by clicking the License Authorization Wizard in the SPSS folder.

- The License Wizard will automatically drop into a License Status window which reports the SPSS products currently licensed to operate on your computer.

- Select Next. The Wizard will proceed to the Choose Licensing Method window. Choose License my product now.
In the next window SPSS provides a brief Overview of Licensing.
- Select Next. Enter one or more authorization codes and select Next. You can authorize more than one SPSS product in this step by selecting Enter additional codes. Each authorization code must be entered in the same format as that provided by the UI Bookstore (upper/lower case rules apply).

- In the Select Authorization Method window that appears, select the default method which is Internet (recommended). This method will be used to authorize all SPSS products for which an authorization code with entered in the previous step.

- Select Next to send the email message. Please allow sufficient time for your computer to open an internet connection and establish connection to the SPSS Inc. license verification server. This may take only a few seconds or several minutes if the server is busy. You will receive a progress report showing each step of the authorization process.

- Select Next and the final window will appear, showing that the licensing has been completed.

- Select Finish and you are now ready to use the SPSS product or products that you have successfully licensed.
