Using the University Data Warehouse
What is the University Data Warehouse?The University Data Warehouse (UDW) is a collection of integrated institutional data which can be accessed by authorized Faculty, Staff, Administrators, Researchers, and Associated Personnel with a business need to know. Data warehouses are specifically designed to handle query capability and analyses from read-only data at the user's desktop. The University Data Warehouse houses a diverse set of university functional information such as academic and financial student information, general ledger, cashiers accrual and pay up information, central business office administrative data, human resources, payroll, personnel, Financials information such as vendor, voucher, and accounts payable and purchasing. How do I Get Access?
Access is assigned to the data warehouse based on a person's needs in his/her unit. Authorization is granted through approval by the employee's department head/supervisor as well as the appropriate data steward(s). Depending on their function and authorization, users have access to some or all of the data. In some cases, a departmental user may only have access to his/her own data (department, college, or division as appropriate). Access requests should be initiated by completing one of the University of Iowa Data Warehouse e-forms (see reference later in this document). Please refer to the Institutional Data Checklist for additional details.
