ITS Hawkmail Server
Your Hawkmail account is your HawkID
Your Hawkmail password is your Hawk ID password
The ITS Hawkmail Server is exchange.uiowa.edu (Note: if you access Hawkmail via a non-Outlook client, the address is email.uiowa.edu)
Your Hawkmail routing address is hawkid@iowa.uiowa.edu, but your alias address is still firstname-lastname@uiowa.edu.
You can configure Outlook to access your Hawkmail account or you can use the web interface (OWA) at: http://email.uiowa.edu

Client Distribution
We recommend that you use Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2003. If you choose to use Outlook Web Access (OWA), be sure that your browser is I.E. 6.0 or Netscape 6.2 or higher. Please make sure that you have installed Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista, Service Pack 2 for Windows XP or Service Pack 3 for Windows 2000.
Availability
Scheduled maintenance hours are every Friday from 10:00 pm until Saturday 3:00 am. We don't take the system down every time but we do security patches approximately once a month. The system is unavailable during this time.
Support
All questions/problems should be directed to your departmental liaison or the ITS Help Desk @ 384-HELP.
If you currently use Eudora or another e-mail client, you may continue to do so. Be aware that once you have an account on the Hawkmail Server you will be receiving messages on that account when mail is sent to you from another Hawkmail or Exchange domain user. Be sure to check mail often on your Hawkmail account.
Password Resets
Please refer to the Hawk ID Tools to change your password.
Data Retention Policy
Storage Limits:
Warning = 50mb , Can't Send = 100mb, Can't Send or Receive = 150mb
If your quota exceeds 50mb you will get the following message in your Inbox:
From: System Administrator
Sent: Friday, February 06, 2004 12:00 AM
To: Jones, Chris
Subject: Your mailbox is over its size limit
Importance: High
Your mailbox has exceeded one or more size limits set by your administrator.
Your mailbox size is nnnnn KB (some value greater than 50000 KB).
Mailbox size limits:
You will receive a warning when your mailbox reaches 50000 KB.You may not be able to send or receive new mail until you reduce your mailbox size.
To make more space available, delete any items that you are no longer using or move them to your personal folder file (.pst).
Items in all of your mailbox folders including the Deleted Items and Sent Items folders count against your size limit.
You must empty the Deleted Items folder after deleting items or the space will not be freed.

If your quota exceeds 100mb and you try to send a message, you will get a warning message. You can save the message in your Drafts folder, but no further delivery attempt is made.
If your quota exceeds 150mb, any incoming messages will be returned to the senders.
Backups
Full backups are run on the Hawkmail Server nightly. ITS keeps a maximum of 2 days of backups.
