1. Open your control panel by clicking Start then Control Panel (Windows XP) or the Windows icon and Control Panel (Windows Vista).
- If you are using Category View, click User Accounts and then choose the Mail icon.
- If you are using Classic View, double-click the Mail icon.
2. Click the E-mail Accounts… button
3. Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next.
4. Select Microsoft Exchange Server and click Next.
5. Add the settings for your account:
- In the Microsoft Exchange Server box, type exchange.uiowa.edu (NOTE: depending on which Hawkmail server your account resides, this may change to IOWAEVS04.iowa.uiowa.edu or IOWAEVS02.iowa.uiowa.edu)
- Place a check in Use Cached Exchange Mode
- Type your Hawk ID in the User Name box (Do not enter domain/HawkID)
- Click Check Name
- Click More Settings

Note: The dialog will search for several minutes before giving a connection error message. Be patient! If prompted, enter your domain\Hawk ID and password (if you are unsure of your domain, look up your Hawk ID and domain here) using the following format:
domain\hawkid
For example: iowa\herky
Ignore the next error and continue on.
Note: Laptop users can speed this search and avoid getting this error by setting up this profile from on campus.
