Mass Mail Filters

Students

Students may set mass mail preferences in ISIS. Initially, each student is subscribed to all categories of mass mailings. The ISIS option panel allows students  to filter mass mailings by opting-out of any category of mass mail that they do not wish to receive (except for mailings from the University Administration, UISG & ECGPS regarding important issues).

Faculty and Staff

Faculty, staff, affiliates, and retirees may filter mass mailings by setting filter options in their e-mail client software. Filters are a powerful way to manage one's mailbox on an everyday basis. This is currently the only way for faculty/staff to indicate preferences for mass mailings. Recognized student organizations are allowed to have non-student members, so faculty and staff may occasionally receive student organization mailings.

External Sources of E-Mail

The "Off Campus" Filter applies only to mail sent by the UI Mass E-mail Service.  It is often difficult to determine sources of unsolicited commercial mail. If the mailing is from the UI Mass Mail Service, there will be a category keyword listed on the subject line, e.g., [UnivAdm].
