Using Evolution 2.10.2 and LDAP

Configuring Evolution 2.10.2 To Use LDAP
  1. Choose File | New | Address Book.


  2. Select Type: On LDAP Servers.  The pop up will change, adding new fields. Values:
    Name: UIOWA (for this example)
    Server: directory.uiowa.edu
    Port: 389
    Use secure connection: No encryption
    Login method: Anonymously

  1. Select the Details tab.
  2. Click on the "Find Possible Search Bases" button which results in multiple choices, the 4th being "OU=people,DC=metadirectory,DC=iowa,DC=uiowa,DC=edu", and select it, or manually add the search base "OU=people,DC=metadirectory,DC=iowa,DC=uiowa,DC=edu" if that isn't one of the choices.

  3. Search Filter should be blank.  Note:  this causes a warning "Bad search filter" when you use it, but it still returns search results.


  4. Click the OK button.

Searching with LDAP

  1. While in the Folders View choose Contacts then choose "On LDAP Servers" select UIOWA (for this example).
  2. Click on the magnifying glass icon in the Search box and select the appropriate criteria.
  3. Enter your Search Criteria and press Enter.
  4. If you want to copy any entry to your local address book, right click on it and choose Copy to Address Book...
  5. Select the address book you want ("On This Computer > Personal") and click the OK button.
