Backing Up Eudora Mailboxes and Files

You should make a backup of any mailboxes containing messages which are important, any nickname files which would be difficult to recreate, etc. Use the following procedure if you are storing your mailboxes, nicknames and other settings on your hard drive. If your mailboxes and settings are already stored on a network drive, you do not need to make a backup.

Windows

Which files should I back up?
  1. If you have access to a network drive, create a folder on your H:\ drive called "Backup" or something similar. Otherwise, back up your mailboxes, etc. to a CD, diskette, or zip disk.
  2. Open the "C:\Documents and Settings\user\SendTo" folder, right-click and select New | Shortcut.
    • In the "Type the location of the item" field, type H:\Backup or click the Browse button to locate your CD drive (CD-RW Drive (D:)) or your diskette drive (3-1/2 Floppy (A:)). Click the Next button.
    • In the "Type a name for this shortcut:" field, type Backup (H) or another name (e.g., Backup to CD). Click the Finish button.
  3. To back up any of your mailboxes (in.mbx, out.mbx, VIP.mbx, etc.) or other files to your network drive (H:) or to a CD, simply use Windows Explorer or My Computer to locate and open your Eudora folder, e.g.,
    C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora
You can also set up a shortcut to this folder to easily locate your mailbox files and any other files you want to back up.
  4. Right-click on the mailbox file or other file you want to back up, and select Send To | Backup (H) or Send To | CD-RW Drive (D:) from the menu.
  5. When you back up the same file the next time, you will get a "Confirm File Replace" window, asking if you want to replace the existing file with the new one. Click Yes to save the most recent version of the file.
