Which E-mail Client Should I Use?
Before you decide on which email client to use, you will need to decide how you are going to access your email.
- Do you check mail from multiple locations (e.g., home, work, etc.)? Use Remote Desktop Connection, RPC over HTTP (using Outlook 2003) , or Entourage
- Are you traveling without a computer? Use Outlook Web Access
- Do you use more than one computer to access email? Use Remote Desktop Connection, RPC over HTTP (using Outlook 2003) , or Entourage
- Do you use one computer to check your mail? Use Outlook 2003 or Entourage
- Are you in an ITC or a computer kiosk? Use Outlook Web Access
- Are you traveling with a shared departmental computer? Use Outlook Web Access
NOTE: if you are a Mac Hawkmail user and you use the Calendar feature, you should consider using Virtual Desktop.
Outlook Web Access (OWA) for Hawkmail (http://email.uiowa.edu)
Browser based email for the Hawkmail email service. OWA works best for accessing your e-mail when you don't have a computer or when you are away from the office. OWA is e-mail that you access using your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.). Mail is stored on the Hawkmail server so you can access your e-mail from any computer, wherever you are located. For instance, you can access it from work, home, hotel, library, etc. With OWA, you do not have to install an e-mail client program on your machine - you open your web browser and type in a web address.
